it’s noticable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while chinese traditional festivals are being somewhat neglected. not long before about 10 doctors in beijing university and qinghua unversity announced that we should reject the invasion of western holidays ,because they regard western holidays as an challenge against our traditional festivals and culture.

frankly speaking, i don’t quite agree with them.indeed, we should never neglect or even discard our traditonal festivals as china boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. (examples).but why can’t we absorb the meaningful western holidays and culture.

there are obvious reasons why some western holidays are so popular in china. on the one hand, some of the western holidays which we chinese don’t have are reasonable and meaningful, such as father’s day and april fool’s day etc. on the other hand,the prevalence of globalization enables western culture to prevail in china. overwhelmed by such a trend,chinese unconsiciously get involved in western holidays and culture.

with the further development of the whole world, the cultural communication between different countries and nations becomes faster and more and more important. we are indeed from different nations, but we are the citizens of the same world, so the outstanding culture of different nations is the commom wealth of everyone on the earth.the only way for us to protect our traditional culture is to reject the foreign culture? the answer is definitely no. what we ought to do is to spare no effort to educate chinese to get to know and treasure our splendid traditions instead of rejecting foreign culture. only by educating can we set our confidence and belief towards our culture. only by educating can we preserve and promote the wealth that our ancesters left for us.

when we are appreciating the passionate melody of gloria estefan, we could hardly imagine that she could return to the stage after her paralysis. in the year 1990, this cuban singer was knocked down in a traffic accident, and the doctor declared that she might never walk again. but gloria did not give up and kept up constant exercising. just one year after the disaster, she stood up again and presented this encouraging song at the atlanta olympics.

whenever i think of gloria, i can’t help recalling my memory seven years ago, when i first entered university. naturally shy, ordinary looking, average scores in study, just like an ugly duckling, i seemed to be the least outstanding one in my class. and the successive failures in the beginning led me into despair. “am i destined to take the back seat to others?” unwilling to submit to the fate, i paid more efforts on my study as well as many other activities, film dubbing, recital, drama… cause i just want to catch every little opportunity to prove myself. constant effort yields sure success. thanks to the competition, i received some awards and most of all, i gained the courage and confidence to face any difficulties in my life journey.

当我们在欣赏葛罗莉亚·伊斯特芬那充满激情的旋律，我们很难想象她能从瘫痪中回到舞台。1990年这个古巴歌手遭遇车祸，医生说她可能再也没办法走路了。可是葛罗莉亚并没有放弃希望，坚持做恢复训练。在灾难后仅仅一年，她又站起来了，并且在亚特兰大奥运会上唱响了这首鼓舞人心的歌曲。

每当我想起葛罗莉亚的.时候，我禁不住回忆起七年前我刚进入大学的时候。天性害羞，相貌平平，成绩一般，就像一只丑小鸭，我是班上最不起眼的一个。而且在刚开学时一连串的失败让我陷入绝望。“难道我注定要给别人当配角吗?” 不愿意向这个命运屈服，我更加努力的学习并且参加许多其他的活动，电影配音、朗诵、戏剧…因为我想抓住任何一个微小的机会来证实我自己。不懈的努力终会带来成功。我从竞赛中获得了一些奖励，最重要的是，我从中得到了面对人生一切困难的勇气和决心。

在我的演讲开始之前，我还是例行做一下自我介绍，我叫秦延恒，临床学院05级本科24班班长，曾任本科15班到检验班班长负责人。站在这里面对大家，其实心里没有太大的底啊，因为感觉自己并不是一个怎样优秀的人，只能算是一个有点激情、有点胆量的人而已！跌跌撞撞的在潍坊医学院度过了大一一年，苦恼过、郁闷过、失望过、摔倒过，走到了今天，还好，我依然站立着，还算笔直的站立着！心里不免暗暗窃喜，因为除了受了点皮外伤之外，其他方面还算完好，更值得庆幸的是：过去的一年还有些收获、学会了一点点可以让自己更加坚强、更加不怕摔的东西。比如：在苦恼中微笑、在郁闷中开怀、在失望中树立信心、在摔倒后爬起来屹然站立！

谈不上有什么经验、也谈不上有什么资历，有的是学会了生活、学会了学习、学会了工作、学会了面对七彩缤纷的大学！也学会了面对不能再现实的世界！然后不断的成长！面对大家，肯定有很多的人比我优秀的多，但是给我信心的是：也许是我比你们早上了一年大学、多了一年磨练自己的岁月，就多了一点点地资本吧，所以我还能坦然地站在这里不至于心慌意乱，不至于双腿打颤！

其实，客观的讲：我们在座的每一位都应该比普通同学具有更加良好的心态，面对生活！面对学习！因为我们不仅是学生还是学生干部！记得去年的九月，我背着性脑，从八百里外的那个山村来到我们潍坊医学院，当我第一脚跨进潍医的大门的时候，心里那是一百个的失望、一百个的透心凉！之前虽然我已经多多少少的了解了我们的学校！来之前我曾经想：一所具有五十五年历史的大学，处于城市的中心，她的面积一定不会很大，另外好像全国的高校都注重保护具有历史意义的建筑，所以他的校园也一定不会很漂亮！但是，那一刻，她还是打碎了我十几年对大学的向往！因为潍医的校园的确给人太多的失望！冷静下来换一种角度思考，也许是因为十几年对大学美好的向往，让我们对“大学”这个名词给与了太多的期待！还好，我们的学校除了拥有一个不太漂亮的校园外，她还有很多让我们值得尊敬的老师、教授！我们的抱怨并不能改变潍坊医学院五十几年的历史，也不能让我们的学校在你的埋怨和郁闷中变得像花园一样美丽！但是值得庆幸的是：我们可以改变自己，可以调整自己一度失落的心态，面对现实，面对对期待美好未来的自己！所以我们现在重要做的是：足够的信心，争取你想要的！演绎你自己的世界，让他美丽和精彩！

作为一名学生干部，在座的每一位肩负的不仅仅是自己的期望，还有来自班级几十个人的期望，因为你迷茫和失落的时候，你周围的同学也可能迷茫和失落，他们也许寄希望于从你这里找到信心和希望！所以，你首先要调整自己的你的心态，然后和你周围的同学一起期待你们的成功！展现你们的风采和美丽！

从接待大一新生开始，我时常会听到大一的新生说：他们面对大学，突然发现自己不再是高中时的那样自信，那样优秀！也许很多同学来到大学后，往往发现自己原来是如此的不自信，会常常的怀疑自己，不敢尝试自己的想法和决定！因为我们周围的确有太多才华横溢的同学，他们也会让你发现自己有太多的技不如人、以不如人！可是我们为何不想一想，难道我们真的比他们差吗？！我们的志向，我们的想法在没有实施之前都没有理由比较，因为，也许你就是最好的一个！

香港首富李嘉诚说过：“用社会总净值的增损来判断一个人行为的合理与否”。在座的各位，那么现在让我们给自己定个位吧！首先，我们是个学生，然后呢，我们又是一个干部，那我们的全称就叫做学生干部！所以实现我们行为合理的方法就是实现个人的双赢和你所在集体的双赢！学习和工作，也许你有时真的无法去区分他们的轻重，因为你往往会发现你的学习时间会被工作无缘无故的占去！这样的话，你就需要好好的调整自己的学习和工作，因为一方赢了，另一方输了都不算成功！你的行为也不算合理！另外，实现你所在集体的双赢，你的工作并不是你赚取什么的途径，因为你的戴这个锻炼与提升自己资历的机会的同时，你有必要也必须因为你所在的位置去给班里的同学做点什么，让他们得到一点因为你的努力才能够得到的东西！这样我们才能够对得起我们的工作！因为我们大大小小也算是一个公仆！

良好心态、展现自我、实现双赢，这些东西不是成功的准则，更不是法宝，仅仅是我的一点小小的经验总结，今天在这里赠与在座的你们，期待与你们共勉！一起进步！

今晚的夜空注定群星璀璨，而我也有幸成为其中的一颗，接下来，将由我闪耀出属于我自己的光辉!

我是来自工商管理学院的陈晨，自信、执着、追求完美的我竞选xx学院第七届学生会主席。我将本届学生会的工作方向，概括为：“一个出发点，一个着力点，一个支撑点以及一个落脚点。”

所谓“一个出发点”，是指学生会要以全心全意为同学服务为出发点。这既是学生会的工作初衷，也是学生会的工作宗旨。只有全面贯彻“从同学中来，到同学中去”的学生会生存理念，才是我们开展各项工作的基础、根本和源头。

所谓“一个着力点”，是指学生会要以为同学做实事，为同学谋利益为着力点。这是学生会的工作重心，是学生会需要下大力气，狠抓实干的关键工作。具体来说，是丰富同学生活，引领同学思潮，开阔同学眼界，维护同学权益。例如，邀请知名学者来校讲座，加深校园学术氛围;设立权益信箱，听取同学心声等等。如此，把学生会的工作重心放在这些方面，将是第七届学生会的关键工作。

而所谓“一个支撑点”，是指以学生会内部建设作为辅助其他各项工作的支撑点。学生会内部建设，主要包括增强学生会成员的认同感、归属感，营造统一、和谐的内部氛围，量化责任制度及考核制度等等。通过这些方式，学生会的“支撑点”将为“出发点”打下坚实基础，为“着力点”提供源源不绝的动力。

最后要说的是“一个落脚点”——即打造x省高校品牌学生会。这也是本届学生会的工作目标。只要学生会的全体成员都向着这个方向而努力，“打造xx省品牌学生会”，将不再是梦想!

以上我所说的四点，是相辅相成，密不可分的`。“一个出发点”是初衷，“一个着力点”是途径，“一个支撑点”是辅助，“一个落脚点”是目标。新一届的学生会，只要拥有正确的“出发点”，准确的“着力点”，明确的“落脚点”，以及牢固的“支撑点”，则必将打开一个全新的局面，学生会的各项工作也必将迈上一个新的台阶!

所有理论都有待实践的检验，所以我会用实际行动证明一切。尽管在这个过程中，有荆棘和坎坷会阻碍我们前进的脚步，但我们曾经留下的那些坚定足迹，足以说明我们的坚忍和执着。我们将一如既往的走下去!

i received a devastating blow to my self-confidence in the first interview of my college years. i applied to be a host in our student acting troupe and felt confident that i would be accepted. but one of the panel members told me: "you seem inadequate and you are a little vertically-challenged." my life has never been the same since. i used bigger heels to complement my height and psychological maneuvers and tricks to hide my lack of confidence. but no matter how hard i tried to look the part, there was still something missing.

as president of english club, i organized the rehearsal of snow white for an english party. unfortunately, we could not find an actor to be the last dwarf. it had to be someone who was humorous by nature and fluent in english. suddenly, all eyes turned to me, and i knew i would have to be the dwarf. to my great surprise and delight, once on stage, i was totally absorbed in the performance and my humorous nature was put to full use. as the dwarf, i was a big hit.

yes, each of us is only one among millions of others, but each of us is an individual and each of us is unique. cultivating our individuality will transform our lives, making of them a kaleidoscope of new colors and textures.

a world deprived of diversity would be a bland and boring place. the real tragedy is not being short or shy or ugly, but having your identity lost in a world in which everyone is a clone of a model cool boy or a flawless charming girl.

given a choice, i would rather be ugly than live in such a world. i'd rather be a genuine dwarf accompanying a snow white than be a snow white among nothing but snow whites. i would rather be myself. i would contribute my individual and unique colors to create a more diverse universe. please, be yourself.
